Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster Position-Specific Training
Den Leader and Assistant Den Leader Position-Specific Training (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, and Bear Dens)
These courses provide Cub Scout leaders with essential tools and information to successfully manage and inspire their pack or den. Leaders who complete this training, along with Youth Protection Training, are considered “fully trained” for their position.
Cub Scout Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
This overnight course introduces Cub Scout leaders to the outdoor program, equipping them to add camping to pack activities. Conducted at the Council level, BALOO covers Scouting America’s Cub Scout camping policies, and practical camping skills.
At least one adult attending a pack overnighter must have completed this course.
This instructor-led training prepares leaders to effectively fulfill their roles within Scouts BSA. Completion of this course along with Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) makes leaders “fully trained” for Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster positions.

Scouts BSA Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
This practical, hands-on course equips adult leaders with the outdoor skills needed to confidently guide Scouts outdoors. Participants will work in patrols, gaining experience necessary to teach Scouts the foundational skills for achieving the First-Class rank. Alongside Scoutmaster Specific Training, this course is required for all direct contact leaders in Scouts BSA troops.
