Friends of Scouting

The 2018 Friends of Scouting fundraising campaign is nearly upon us. As a nonprofit, the BSA relies on the generosity and support of others to help provide the

funds to propel our programs. Every contribution towards FOS makes a huge difference and allows our Council to do so many things including maintain our wonderful camps, provide assistance to families in need, and provide a strong program.

As always, a big part of FOS is our Family Division which focuses on making presentations to our Packs, Troops, Crews, and Ships. These presentations feature a brief update on the state of the District and Council and then families and unit leaders are asked to consider making a pledge to support one Scout for $234 or to give a gift at a level that is appropriate for their family. To recognize the support given towards FOS, anyone that contributes will receive a Council car decal. There are also additional recognition items for those that give gifts of $100, $234, or $500.

To get our District’s Family FOS kicked off, please provide our District Executive Matt Hall with the date of your units upcoming Blue and Gold banquet, Court of Honor, or other unit event where you would like to have a FOS presentation. The preference is to hold this presentation between January and March 2018 and go towards the beginning of the events program. Units should budget about 10 minutes for their FOS presentation.

Finally, if you are interested in being a part of our District FOS team and becoming a unit presenter, please contact District Executive Matt Hall. We are always looking for folks to join our team.


Recruitment is a year round process. While we focus heavily on recruitment efforts in the fall when school is starting back up, families can join the Scouting movement at any time. One of the simplest things you can do is to make sure your unit’s “Be a Scout” pin is up to date with accurate contact info. Try and check your unit’s pin once a month and follow up with any leads. These are families that want to join Scouting and may have missed us at an open house or traditional Join Scouting event. If you need help updating your unit pin or want to set up additional recruitment efforts contact our District Membership Chair Todd Kennedy at or our District Executive Matt Hall


Roundtables are held on the first Thursday of each month at 7 PM, unless otherwise noted. The meeting is held in the Fellowship Hall at Clearview United Methodist Church located at 4515 38th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33713. Roundtable always features a unique program and is a great opportunity to meet and network with other Unit Leaders and learn about upcoming events. The Skyway District’s OA Calusa Chapter also holds its meetings at Roundtable so encourage your Arrowmen to attend.


Our youth deserve trained leaders. The District goal is to have all registered leaders fully trained in their positions to ensure the youth receive the best program possible. Many training courses are available online at however we can also schedule in person training at the local level.
