Skyway District Banquet
Join us for our annual District Awards Dinner, 6:30—8:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at First United Methodist Church, 212 Third St. North, St. Petersburg, Florida. The district is accepting the nomination of Scouters for awards to recognize their contributions to the Scouting program.
Webelos Fellowship 2017
Webelos Scouts live for the day when they can join a Boy Scout Troop and begin the next step on their trail to the rank of Eagle Scout. But what does that new Scouting experience look like? Join us at our Webelos Fellowship event Feb. 24—26 and find out! Webelos Scouts will form into patrols, create a patrol flag and patrol yell. They’ll spend the weekend at Camp Soule in Clearwater with guidance from local Boy Scouts, who will be along to show them the ropes. The highlight of the weekend is the Crossover Ceremony, where Arrow of Light Scouts will cross the bridge from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts under the guidance of Akela!

Family Friends of Scouting
Great news!! With the help of Nominating Chair David Prior, we have a new Family Friends of Scouting Chair. Here is a brief biography on Family FOS chair Linda Morgan. She was born and raised in St. Petersburg, is a USF graduate and Coldwell Banker Realtor, married to a wonderful man and mother to an amazing Eagle Scout. Her son was very blessed to have the support of all the deeply devoted adults that are a part of Boy Scout Troop 236. “Being involved with Scouting at the troop level was both a learning experience and an opportunity to be part of one of the most important journeys my son will travel. It is an honor to have the opportunity to give back, to our kids and the Scouts.” Skyway District is currently looking for dedicated and motivated volunteers for FOS presentations. If you enjoy sharing ideas and not afraid of a crowd, we need you!!! For more information, contact Linda Morgan at 727-251-0494 or email her at Linda.Morgan@floridamoves.com. Thank you again Mrs. Morgan for stepping up to the plate!
Units: We need your participation in the 2017 Family FOS campaign! Don’t just focus on your unit’s financial needs, the district also needs you! Family Friends of Scouting gives leaders and parents the opportunity to help offset the expense of providing Scouting for youth in our area. Family Friends of Scouting is our annual fundraising effort at the unit level. Unit leaders, please call or email us with the dates of your Pack, Blue and Gold, Pinewood Derbies, Court of Honor, Troop and Venturing meetings. Preferred presentation dates are January – March 2017. With a quick 10 minutes of your meeting time, we will explain to your unit what giving to Scouting is all about. Planning for it ahead of time will give us the opportunity to better serve you and the earlier the presentation, the more time parents have to pay off their pledges. Please contact Linda Morgan or Matthew Hall to schedule your units presentation today!
The youth we serve deserve trained leaders. The District goal is to have all registered leaders fully trained in their positions and to earn the Gold status Journey To Excellence award of trained leader. In case you don’t know, many training courses are available online at tampabayscouting.org. For more training information, contact Training Chair Gib Bradbury at 727-204-4833 or email@example.com.
January Roundtable has been rescheduled for Jan. 8 due to the holidays. Roundtables are held on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted. The meeting is held at Clearview United Methodist Church, 4515 38th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33713. Contact Candice Nyarkoh for more details.
Mind shift! No more concentrating on “Fall Recruiting”—recruiting is now year round. All the other programs start in the spring so we have to change our ways. The youth of our communities need Scouting. As you all know, some of our old recruiting efforts yielded very few members. We are currently contacting units so we can formulate better strategies for recruiting. So let’s get to work now! Whatever help you need don’t hesitate to contact Todd Kennedy at firstname.lastname@example.org or Matthew Hall. There are many customizible resources available free of charge to your unit. All you need to do is ask for them!
