We want to inform you about some important changes to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) national membership fees and structure that will take effect on April 1, 2024. These changes are part of the BSA’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and ensure the sustainability of the Scouting program.
Key Changes to Membership Fees:
- Elimination of Joining Fee: The BSA will eliminate the $25 one-time joining fee for new participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouting.
- Annual Membership Fees:
- Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouting participants: $85 (a $5 increase) + $33 Council Fee = $118 Total
- Adult volunteers: $65 (a $5 increase) + $21 Council Fee = $86 Total
- Merit Badge Counselors: $25 (no change; applies only to those not already registered as leaders) + No Council Fee = $25 Total
- Exploring youth and adult participants: $50 (no change) + No Council Fee = $50 total
- Unit charter/affiliation fee: $100 (no change)
- Scout Life magazine subscription: $15 (no change)
BSA’s Annual Membership Fee Process:
- All new and renewing members are enrolled in a 12-month membership cycle, paying the full annual fee.
- Membership renewals occur on the anniversary date of joining Scouting, with no proration of fees.
- Members will receive an email notice with a renewal link 60 days before their anniversary date, and unit leaders will be copied on these emails to assist with the renewal process.
