What is a Unit Commissioner?

A Unit Commissioner is a volunteer Scouter who works directly with unit leaders to help them provide the highest quality Scouting program possible. As friends, teachers and counselors to unit leaders, Commissioners represent the ideals, principles and policies of the Scouting program while providing the resources of the district and council to the units they serve. The primary purpose of the Commissioner Team is to help units succeed.

Commissioner Corps Meetings

The Suncoast Commissioner Corps meets monthly to review the status of our units, share unit successes, and develop methods to improve unit service throughout the district. Commissioner meetings are held the third Thursday of each month via web conference.

If you have any questions concerning unit service within our district, please contact our District Commissioner.

Suncoast District Friends of Scouting – Serving Pasco County, FL

The Suncoast District of the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council changes the lives of youth and their families through the positive programs of the Boy Scouts of America.  Pasco county has more than 1,070 young people in Cub Scouts, Scouts B.S.A. and Exploring.

This year, the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council will spend $234 on each of the more than 16,000 youth in programs throughout its nine-county area. Our council supports the units providing training for volunteers, developing and producing materials to recruit more youth and families into Scouting, and covering our activities with insurance. The Council also maintains camp properties, provides rangers for those properties, has a Scout Service Center for our administrative support, and assists Scouts who need help with the cost of participation.

With community support for Friends of Scouting, the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council can continue to support the Scouts. Fees and dues paid to the Scout units do not pay for council operations. Instead, the council must depend on the generosity of families, community leaders, and local businesses for support.

Please consider a pledge of support. Thank you for your consideration!

Service Hour Entry

Tracking service hours is a critical way to show our impact within the community and is required for Journey To Excellence (JTE) every year.

OA Unit Elections

Once each calendar year a troop or team may conduct an election within their unit to select scouts (up to age 21) and nominate adults for membership in the Order of the Arrow. In order to be eligible for election, a Scout must have:

  1. Achieved the rank of First Class
  2. Participated in 15 days/nights of camping in the past 2 years (must include but may only count one long term resident camp under the auspices of the BSA)
  3. Recommendation from their Scoutmaster
