At just 13 years old, Vini G. of Troop 528 in Davenport is setting an inspiring example of service and leadership. As part of his journey to earn the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, Vini is raising funds for a unique and life-saving project—purchasing advanced training equipment for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
A 7th grader at Ridgeview Global Studies Academy, Vini began his Scouting adventure in 2021 with the Webelos. Since then, he’s advanced through Cub Scouts and joined Troop 528 in 2023. Now, he’s channeling his passion and values into a project that will directly impact the safety and readiness of local deputies.
The centerpiece of his project is a state-of-the-art training simulation device that attaches to an officer’s arm or leg. During shooting scenario simulations, the device is remotely activated to deliver an electric pulse, temporarily disabling the limb. This technology helps deputies train under extreme stress—simulating what it would be like to be wounded in the line of duty and still required to pursue or engage a suspect.
“With this equipment, we can better prepare deputies on how to ‘stay in the fight’ should they ever—God forbid—be shot in the line of duty,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “We are so proud of Vini and hope through this project he attains his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.”
This isn’t the first time a local Scout has taken bold action to support law enforcement. In 2023, Eagle Scout David J. led the “Beacon of Hope” campaign, raising funds to provide infrared safety lights for PCSO K9 units—tools that enhance officer and K9 safety during nighttime operations.
Through their actions, both Vini and David demonstrate the true spirit of Scouting—leadership, service, and a deep commitment to community.
