This past weekend, five youth participated in their very first overnight Scouting experience through our ScoutReach program at Operation First Class, held at Camp Soule.

Four of the Scouts came from our program at Sligh Middle School, and one joined us from the Sumter Community Center. The group—three girls and two boys—camped from Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning, accompanied by our Director of ScoutReach.

Over the weekend, they learned the basics of camping, teamwork, and outdoor skills. From pitching tents to completing swimming tests, every moment was packed with new challenges and accomplishments.

One Scout, Alex, shared what the experience meant to him:

“When I first got here, I was kind of scared and felt out of place. But then the camp leaders helped me get settled in. I even helped them put up my tent! The next day, I met new friends—and now I feel like I have a lot ahead of me.” Alex, ScoutReach Participant

This is the heart of ScoutReach: giving every young person a chance to grow through Scouting, regardless of background or circumstance.

We’re proud of these Scouts for stepping outside their comfort zones and into a weekend of personal growth and adventure.
