The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide an educational program to develop in our youth the qualities of character, to teach and promote the skills of Scouting, to train our youth in the responsibilities of good citizenship, to develop strong personal fitness, to build character, and to promote self-reliance and family living. Right now, in your neighborhood, there is a young person with the potential for either greatness or destruction. We need to reach him before the moment passes. It is far better to build children than to repair adults.
Your Friends of Scouting donation provides support for programs such as Camporees, Cub Scout Day Camps, Cub Scout Family Weekends, and Boy Scout Summer Camps. Your contributions help maintain our two Council Offices, and our five camp properties (Camp Alafia in Lithia, Camp Owen J Brorein in Odessa, Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales, Camp Soule in Clearwater and Sand Hill Scout Reservation in Brooksville). It also provides crucial infrastructure such as field staff, support staff, registration, this website, liability insurance, and other services and resources.
It costs roughly $234 per year to provide services to a boy in Scouting. Please consider supporting one or more boys.
You may want to consider making a donation to Scouting by memorializing someone, or as a way of celebrating an achievement (i.e. attaining Eagle Scout), or by enabling a less fortunate family to send their son to camp. Camp scholarships are always appreciated.
Invest in Scouting
The Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. In the future, Scouting will continue to offer young people responsible fun and adventure, instill lifetime values and develop their ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law, and train them in citizenship, service and leadership. Friends of Scouting
Each year, parents of Scouts and community members in the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council are asked to contribute to the annual Friends of Scouting (FOS) campaign. This campaign is an essential component of the funding efforts for our Council, raising over 30% of the council’s annual income. Council Endowment Programs
The endowment fund is one of the best ways to ensure the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council can continue to offer the outstanding programs it has now and also grow to meet the needs of the youth and communities that we serve. Gifts are made to the endowment fund through a charitable contribution above and beyond an annual FOS contribution. Many donors give to the endowment fund through a bequest, planned gift arrangement, or one of the Second Century Society programs. Only the interest earned from the endowment is used by the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council. A gift to endowment is considered permanent, as the principal is never touched.
Memorials and Honorariums
Memorials create a lasting memory that makes a difference in the lives of thousands of young people around the greater Tampa Bay area. Special accomplishments, people and events are all eligible for honorariums that benefit the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council Endowment Fund and provide a unique method of recognition. State of Florida Specialty License Plate
A simple and visible way to support Scouting is through the purchase of a Florida specialty license plate. When you renew your registration at your local tax collector’s office, simply let them know you wish to replace your current license plate with a Boy Scout specialty license plate. If it is not time in your license plate’s cycle to replace the metal license plate, you will pay a few additional dollars to switch to a specialty license plate, so the best time to switch is when you’re going to have to replace your metal license plate (every ten years). Specialty license plates cost a set fee (annually) above the cost of a standard Florida license plate, and the fees vary based on the type of license plate. These additional funds support the cause for which the specialty license plate was designed. For a list of county tag offices, click here.
