Have questions before getting involved? Here are a few of the most common ones.
Do I need to have a child in Scouting to volunteer?
No. There are many ways to volunteer whether or not your family is currently involved in Scouting.
Do I need previous Scouting experience?
Not for many opportunities. Event support, service projects, and other roles often require no previous Scouting experience.
Can I volunteer for just one event?
Yes. Many opportunities are designed for people who can help for a few hours, a single day, or one special event.
Do some volunteer roles require training or registration?
Yes. Some leadership and program-area roles may require Scouting registration, Youth Protection Training, background screening, certifications, or other qualifications. If a role has specific requirements, we will help point you toward the right next step.
I want to help with my pack, troop, crew, or ship. Who should I contact?
Start with your unit leader. They will know where help is currently needed within your unit and can help identify the best way to get involved.
Can my company or organization volunteer as a group?
Yes. Group opportunities may include camp projects, event support, service days, and other needs throughout the year.
Can teenagers volunteer?
Some opportunities may be appropriate for youth volunteers, while others are limited to adults. Age requirements depend on the activity and role.
Can volunteer hours count toward school or service requirements?
Some opportunities may qualify for service hours. Ask about the specific opportunity before volunteering so we can confirm whether hours can be documented.
I have a professional skill or hobby I would like to share. Who should I contact?
Start with the specialized program area contacts listed on this page. If your skill does not fit one of those areas, use the volunteer interest form and tell us a little about your background.
What happens after I submit the volunteer interest form?
We will review your interests, availability, and location and help connect you with an opportunity or volunteer leader who can help with the next step.
