Camp Alafia

From Tampa, take State Road 60 East toward Brandon. Turn right on State Road 640 (Lithia Pinecrest Road). Follow State Road 640 for eight miles, past the traffic light at Fish Hawk Blvd, to the camp entrance. The entrance is on the left, under the power line easement. (If you come to Boyette Road, you have gone too far.) Access is granted by the gate code issued at the time of approved reservation. Camp Alafia is a primitive camp near Lithia and east of Tampa in Hillsborough County. The property, located at 5453 Lithia Pinecrest Rd., Lithia 33547, is bounded to the west by the Alafia River and contains several campsites beneath an oak canopy.

In 2012, the Council secured a grant that allowed the opening of the roads and nature trails. In addition, five more camp sites were opened up as well. The 500-acre camp is a primitive campground, ideally suited for Boy Scouts seeking a high adventure experience 30 minutes from south Tampa. Here, they can learn survival skills such as how to build lean-to shelters, eat off the land, and work together with others. With no potable water nor sanitary facilities, planning ahead is a must!
