The Council alternates two fun-filled merit badge weekends every two years. In 2016, we will host Frontier Day Weekend on Oct. 21-23 at Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales. In addition to a series of merit badge classes, offered largely in the morning on Oct. 22, a series of Pioneer Skills competitions will take place in the afternoon on that day. At the conclusion of the Pioneer Skills, a Cooking Competition will be held.
Morning merit badge classes currently scheduled are: Basketry, Bird Study, Disabilities Awareness, Electronics, Fishing, Geology, Indian Lore, Insect Study, Leatherwork, Metalwork, Mining In Society, Nature, Photography, Orienteering, Reptile and Amphibian Study, and Scouting Heritage.
All-day classes currently scheduled are: Cooking, Geocaching, Pioneering, Rifle Shooting, and Shotgun Shooting. Note that Scouts must be at least 13 years old to participate in either shooting course.
Pioneering Skills include Axe Throwing, Cooking Competition, Fire Building, First Aid, Hoop Race, Horseshoe Throwing, Mystery Relay, Orienteering Scavenger Hunt, Pioneering Competition, Raft Building and Racing, and Watermelon Seed Spitting.
