The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, Scouting America, is pleased to announce a leadership transition as we celebrate the distinguished career of Mike Butler and welcome Greg Balog as our new Scout Executive and CEO.

Honoring Mike Butler
After more than 40 years of dedicated professional service to Scouting, Mike Butler is retiring from a career devoted to serving young people and strengthening communities through the values of Scouting.
As Scout Executive and CEO of the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, Mike provided steady leadership, fostered meaningful partnerships, and worked alongside volunteers, donors, and staff to expand opportunities for youth across west-central Florida.
His leadership helped position the council for continued growth while ensuring that thousands of young people experienced the adventure, leadership, character development, and service that Scouting provides.
Although Mike’s professional career is coming to a close, the impact of his leadership will continue to be felt through the volunteers he inspired, the communities he served, and the generations of Scouts whose lives were changed because of his commitment.
The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council extends its sincere gratitude to Mike for his decades of service and wishes him every happiness in retirement.

Welcoming Greg Balog
As we celebrate Mike’s remarkable legacy, we are excited to welcome Greg Balog as the next Scout Executive and CEO of the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council.
Greg brings decades of professional Scouting leadership and a passion for serving youth and volunteers. He began his career with the Blue Ridge Council as a district executive before serving as finance director and field director. He later served in leadership roles with the Indian Waters Council, Circle Ten Council, and Central North Carolina Council before returning to the Blue Ridge Council as Scout Executive and CEO.
Throughout his career, Greg has demonstrated a strong commitment to building healthy councils, developing volunteers, and creating exceptional experiences for young people and their families.
Greg will officially begin his role as Scout Executive in September. Until then, council operations will continue as normal, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council in the coming weeks.
As Greg begins this new chapter with the our Council, we look forward to his leadership as we continue growing Scouting’s impact throughout west-central Florida.
Please join us in thanking Mike Butler for his extraordinary service and welcoming Greg Balog and his family to the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council.
Together, we look forward to the next chapter of Scouting in Tampa Bay.
