Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a one-day training event that introduces leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. This is an energetic training that will cover everything you need to know to plan and run a pack overnighter. Information on selecting and using camping equipment, how to run a campfire program, outdoor activities, first aid, safety, games, ceremonies, plus hands-on Cub Scout cooking demonstrations! Everything you need to know to make your pack overnighter a fun successful event!
Participants who complete this training course will:
- Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program.
- Gain the skills needed to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity.
- Learn more about the resources available from the BSA for carrying out this activity.

Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders (OLWLS)
This course is designed to help Webelos leaders enhance the outdoor program for the Webelos Scouts in their den by teaching some basic outdoor skills as well as skills needed to complete many of the Webelos activity badges. This course can be taught as a stand-alone experience, but is often presented in conjunction with Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (ITOLS). Boy Scout Outdoor Skills Training
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (ITOLS)
A fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the outdoors, Introduction to Outdoor Leaders Skills is designed to help you master basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class. Learn how to set up camp, cook outdoors, work with woods tools and about ropes, first aid, planning campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, backpacking and hiking techniques, nature identification, and the Leave No Trace.
Each outdoor session will bring life to the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve. This course will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders in your area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders.
