The Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes local leaders who are advocates and supporters of youth and their development. The Greater Tampa Bay Area Council hosts two annual events, the Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner in St. Petersburg in November and the Distinguished Citizen Award Luncheon in downtown Tampa in March. The Dinner is a ticketed event that supports local scouting. The Luncheon asks guests to make a pledge in support of local scouting.

On April 1, 2011 Bob Buckhorn was officially sworn into office and since then, he has led the city out of largest recession since the great depression. He has annually balanced the budget and has made strategic investments without raising property taxes. Under his leadership the City of Tampa has seen twelve credit rating increases.

Emmitt played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1990 – 2002 and then the Arizona Cardinals for 2003 – 2004. He is a three-time Superbowl champion and earned the Superbowl XXVIII MVP. Smith was elected into the NFL Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2010.
