The Gulf Ridge Council, Boys Scouts of America hosts the annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. event, which recognizes outstanding service by individuals or organizations in the development of Scouting for culturally and economically diverse youth. Proceeds from the luncheon benefit over 1,500 at-risk youth in the West Central Florida area. Funds raised are used for scholarships for boys to attend Cub Scout day camp and Boy Scout summer camp. These gifts also provide uniforms, Scout handbooks, leader manuals and advancement awards, to list just a few of the benefits from Whitney M. Young, Jr. support. Scouting continues to flourish in our neediest communities due to in large part to support from community leaders, local businesses and volunteers.

We were pleased to honor The Dream Center of Tampa as the recipient of the 2016 Whitney M. Young Jr. award.

The Dream Center of Tampa was founded in November 2010 with the vision of serving youth and residents living in East Tampa and Ybor City to help youth and families develop resiliency, build character, develop strong, supportive, and enduring community relationships, through offering enhanced family mentoring, after school care, computer access and homework help, and athletic programs.

This event was held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Ulele Restaurant, 1810 N. Highland Avenue in Tampa. Live Music was provided by TAABU.

We look forward to another exciting event in 2017.  Check back for details, and we hope to see you there.
